We got an interesting letter today. We pissed someone off. And you know, she had a point.

She said that our Friday Focus had become advertorial. Now, I’m not the diva of Social Media Marketing, but I think it could be because we keep screaming at random strangers to BUY THE BOOK! I’m just guessing at this, of course.

It kind of reminds me of something Carrie or Danielle said, “It’s never about the money, and it’s always about the money.” But I see her point: Friday Focus is for inspiration. Before I started working here and tuning her out*, I would hang on Danielle’s every word. If she wrote in F.F. that I should “Edit, Add and Appreciate” this week, then by golly, I would.

Recently, I suppose the suggestion has been to go to Amazon.com and buy the book – which I have done, four times actually. (To all my friends, I did not scam them from the studio, I paid honest money for them, I did!)

So, coming back to the point of the post: we were really glad to get this email. It was well-written and gentle, but it still hit a nerve because it reminded us of why we do what we do: We are here to inspire. Full stop.

Thank you for the wake-up call. We all need them from time to time.

Well said, Karryn (that’s exactly why you’re our Communications Manager.) Let me chime in: in addition to inspiring millions of people to live truly to themselves, we are aiming to be deeply fulfilled and successful entrepreneurs. And we will do all that it takes (which is a lot) to get our message out to the world. A light under a bushel is, well, a light under a bushel. No apologies for promoting our work…which is all about inspiration.
