Great info., especially for the technically uneducated.
Dan, I love the simplicity of your writing, an interesting read even if it is about computers and technology, an area in my life that I am rather "stupid" about.

Thank you for your article. It inspired us to do research into Google Apps and we will also look into Basecamp. We are outgrowing many of the systems we have had for years so the timing was perfect. Thanks again for sharing!

One of the things I valued so much about this post, Daniel, is having it acknowledged by someone on the other side of the biz that tech people don't always make it easier for their clients. I've experienced real frustration with that this year.

It is refreshing and gives me hope to know that knowledgeable and helpful people like you are also in the biz. Thanks for sharing your wisdoms!

No problem at all. Finding the time to deal with technology stuff when you're growing quickly can be very difficult

I second, third and fourth the top 5. Especially Google Apps. And oh how I slogged through the switch over. I had to tear myself from the pretty comfort of Outlook. Google is ugly, but it's so freaking efficient. And it's CONSTANTLY improving. And what do you pay for those improvements? Nada.

Before Dan came on board, we looked for months for a web-based document sharing system. They were either pricey, had a steep learning curve, or limited in functionality. Now, we create a Google Doc and can share it, access it, work on it from anywhere -- in real time. It's beautiful.

I don't think everyone can fully get rid of IT support, we're fortunate that our CEO is a serious Geek - but if you proceed knowing that so many IT tools are FREE, then you can give a geek consultant some stern direction about what to put into place for you.
