- Take a close look at your schedule and realistically plan out the time you will spend on your fitness programs. It is best that you give at least 3-4 days a week to your fitness training. Some training like specific Yoga styles may even require you to practice every day. Ensure that your choice of fitness training program is compatible with your schedule. If you cannot stick to your regular fitness schedule, you will see no difference in your fitness levels and you may even lose motivation to continue with the program.
- Ensure that your diet is wholesome and nourishing. You will be burning a lot of energy while you exercise and it is important to refuel your body with all the essential nutrients you eat. For any fitness training program to be most effective, it has to be accompanied by a well balanced diet.

Having this information will give you a deeper understanding of the training program you have chosen and will help you use it as effectively as possible.
- Set up personal fitness goals. Working out without fitness goal may not be very motivating after a while and you may end up quitting the training even before results begin to show. You can set any personal goal you like, for instance, losing a few extra pounds in preparation of the surfing season, or preparing to participate in the marathon, or walking 5 miles without losing your breath. These goals have to be realistic so that you don’t get discouraged while pursuing them.
