The importance of keeping fit and healthy is becoming obvious, as more and more illnesses and diseases are being connected to an unhealthy and an unfit body. Apart from having to deal with numerous health problems, not being fit ca come in the way of your complete enjoyment of life. An unfit person may never know the joy of trekking up a mountain or diving under the waves. A person with an unfit body leads a life that restrictive and limited. If you want to lead a life full of fun and excitement, it is crucial that you are fit and healthy. And contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to spend a fortune for getting fit. You can start an exercise and fitness regime in your own home that won’t cost you the world.

  • The first thing you want to do is consult your doctor to determine your current level of fitness. Also, enquire of what forms of exercise the doctor would recommend for you. It is important to keep the doctor’s advice in mind and not start with pushing your body beyond its limit. Else, you may risk a potential injury or endanger your health.
  • The next thing you need to figure out is which fitness training you would like to adopt. As you are probably aware, there are many different exercise and fitness regimens that can be followed and you want to choose one that meets your requirements as well as the doctor’s recommendation. You can choose from aerobics, yoga and gymnastics amongst others. You can get DVDs to help you get started and design your workout.
  • Apart from this you can also do muscle strengthening exercises like push-ups, pull-ups and squats. These exercises will not only make your muscles stronger, they will also help improve your stamina.
  • If it is possible for you to make an investment, a treadmill or exercise bikes are a good investment towards your health. Exercise bikes and treadmill should not be relegated to a corner of the house in a separate room, or they tend to get under-utilized. Most people lose the motivation after some time and their exercise gear just goes waste. One ideal position for a treadmill or exercise bikes is in front of the television, so you can keep exercising while you watch the news or catch the soccer game.
  • Family Fitness is a new concept gaining immense popularity as a way of ensuring fitness of the entire family while having fun. Allot a fixed time per day for family fitness and play games or do exercises together that will ensure that all members get a thorough workout every day.
  • Explore the outdoors. Take some time out periodically to go camping, trekking, climbing, rowing, etc. These excursions will not only help you stay fit, they will also help clear your mind and will refresh and rejuvenate you.
  • Finally, take some time to pursue activities like brisk walking, jogging, running, skipping, cycling and skating on a daily or weekly basis to add a little more exercise and fun to your fitness regime.
