Everyone dreams.
They say dreams are the windows of the soul – take a peek and you can see the inner workings, the nuts and bolts.
- Henry Bromel, Northern Exposure, “The Big Kiss,” 1991
Our dreams and desires define us. Be they broken, scarcely remembered, on the verge of reality, or in full bloom. They pilot our choices. Dreams have the power to shape the entire landscape of our lives.
Because they tend to be so precious and potent, many people keep their dreams and aspirations to themselves.
A dream is a very sacred thing to share.
Everyone’s got one, and if you knew their dream, you might look at the person very differently… with more tenderness, more respect, more familiarity, and more wonder than before. Dream-sharing melts boundaries.
THIS WEEK: Look at everyone you meet and think to yourself, “Hmmm… I wonder what their dream is?” Ask at least one person this week what their dream is. You can do it subtly, and traditionally, like, “Where do you see yourself in five years?” or “What did you want to be when you were growing up?”. Or you can just go for it, playfully and momentously and ask, “So, what’s your big dream?”. Make no assumptions about your partner, your workmate, or the bus driver. Small, mighty, seemingly impossible, or simply pure – when you know someone’s dream, your perspective leans forward to open.
Paul Potts was a cell phone salesman who struggled with self esteem and a burning desire to be an opera singer. Finally, years of dreaming and diligence were met with thunderous applause (click here to see).

Indeed, this man has worked hard for his dream and has overcome many obstacles. But, my dears, this didn’t happen last week. Perhaps you saw the video for the first time last week? This happened in June 2007. Paul is a mindblowing singer, and is becoming known around the world. In case you didn’t know; yes, he did win the competition.
For some unfathomable reason, Paul is not yet well known in North America. (Maybe the word “Opera” throws people off, and they don’t watch the video because of it. I detested opera, and never wanted to listen to it before. But I love Paul Potts.) Those of us that do know him treasure him greatly. I met him after one of his concerts in the US (he did a North American Concert Tour in March 2008) and he is a sweet, charming and humble man. His voice in person completely blew my mind. His debut CD, “One Chance”, is played every day in my home. An unbelievable talent that raises goosebumps.
