I've worked from home, off and on, for 12 years. Now that I have two kids, I've structured my life so that I can be at home with them, while running my business from home during nap times and bed times. My husband works a few blocks away and we've made many choices to support our lifestyle.

There really is nothing better than knowing you can take your future into your own hands and create wealth from a home business. I have recently started an online business called <a href=http://sunflowerfavors.com> Sunflower Favors, selling party and <a href=http://sunflowerfavors.com> wedding favors. It is very liberating to know that my hard work directly reflects my success. Here's to you!

I don't have children, but I'd like to get to that point where I'm working from home: writing and running my business. That would be totally sweet.

I loved this post as it so captures all the positives of working from home, and answers the question that so many ask about not being able to afford to quit their unfulfilling jobs, that it's all about choice and learning to live on less financially. One of my favourite expressions is that "money is not the only currency" and the wonderful lifestyle that Sandy has captured so well in her writing here is testament to that.

All the best

Tamsin/nudgeme

I've been a freelancer and working from home nearly all my adult life, and at this point I feel like I couldn't do it any other way! (Although sometimes I wonder if I had to switch over and get a office-based job -- would I be able to? Am I employable?) I do admit, I feel great anxiety sometimes during this period of economic uncertainty -- but I also feel like I have well-developed skills to be pro-active about it. One challenge for me has been with avoiding burnout and the constant temptation to "do one more thing," but that's life -- one beautiful opportunity to learn and grow.

Now that I have two kids, I've structured my life so that I can be at home with them, while running my business from home during nap times and bed times. My husband works a few blocks away and we've made many choices to support our lifestyle. But it's funny how many people -- usually women -- say, "Oh, you're lucky that your husband makes enough money so you can stay at home!" Our life choices and my business seem to be invisible. After all, it *must* be that my husband is a millionaire, right? It couldn't be that we shop a little differently, live in a condo, share parenting responsibilities, forgo the big trips or that I work in the evenings. Still, occasional jabs aside, I love my choice and I advocate it.

I made this choice about a year and a half ago. It's not always easy but I know it's right for me and my family. Thanks for sharing your story. I know there are a lot of souls out there searching for the courage to do the same (Traci!).

First of all congratulations!!! For managing a carreer, two kids, a household and a husband!!! Like you, I have finally opened up my own business, after 4 long years of serious thoughts and major insecurities. But eversince I took that desicion, not a day has passed that I am not thankful for what I did. I work, like you, from home. I have gained more time with my husband and friends and now that we are expecting our first baby, I believe I will have more time to enjoy both my pregnancy and my baby. No amount of money, or job titles, can compensate this feeling. We live in a society that puts money, success and spending first and interpersonal relations and personal fulfilment second. It takes sacrifices, like you so well said in your article. But they are all worth it!!!
