Do You Really Need Personal Training?

Fitness, Health & Wellness, Trainers and training | November 14th, 2009 2 Comments

People take on an exercise regime or a fitness program for different reasons. You may want to lose weight or you may be training for a major athletic event, or maybe you just want a healthier and fitter body. Whatever your reasons may be, a good workout program is bound to work wonders. In the world of fitness and training, the latest rage at the moment is to hire a personal trainer. Initially, only celebrities had personal trainers and could afford them, but now personal trainers have become available at your local fitness centre and they are far more affordable. The question then is, do you really need a personal training?

People commonly believe that personal trainers are only justified when you have tried everything on your own and are yet not able to meet your personal goal. This implies that personal trainers should only be employed as a last ditch effort. Nothing could be further from the truth. As any person who works out regularly will tell you, it takes time for both the body and the mind to get used to the workout. Your body is sure to feel a little abused after the first few days of fitness exercises and you are very likely at that time to simply give up your physical training altogether. What is required at that time is encouragement and motivation that only a personal trainer can provide.

Another major hurdle to cross when you are starting out your fitness exercises is having a well planned fitness program, especially if you have a fitness goal in mind. Simply doing any exercise ad hoc is highly avoidable. You could cause your body more damage than good and may not be able to eventually reach your goal. Guidance is certainly required at this juncture. While trainers at your fitness centre can get you started, he or she is unlikely to create a personal training program designed to your specific needs. This is where a personal trainer comes in. He will identify your goals and set a fitness regimen that is required to meet your goals. At the same time, if your goals are unrealistic, your personal trainer will suggest more attainable goals to you, and you won’t feel disheartened at a later stage.

One other very important aspect of fitness training is avoiding any physical injury. If you don’t do your exercises correctly, you could end up injuring yourself. As a result of this, you may be put off the entire fitness training or you may not be able to achieve the personal goal you had set for yourself. Your personal trainer will be able to ensure that you are doing all your fitness exercises in the correct position and posture and are not risking damage to any part of your body.

Finally, a personal trainer will know how far you should push yourself. Many of us tend to push ourselves too much or too little and both can be dangerous when it comes to your personal fitness.
