First, make sure to see if the brideand groom have registered at a store or online. If so, locate their registry, print off their list and purchase something you feel is suitable from the list. If you don’t want to purchase something off the registry, look over their list to see what kinds of things they want or like. If you can’t make a decision on something from the list, a gift card to their registered store is still proper so they can purchase items they didn’t receive.

Secondly, it will also help to talk to the bride and groom’s family or friends. If you happen to be the close friend or a relative and you still are uncertain what to get, check with another friend or a closer family member. This will help you find out what the bride and groom likes, what they dislike, and you’ll get an idea of what others are buying so nothing is duplicated.

Still looking? If you know the bride and groom well, compile a list of things they need to help complete their home or apartment-or perhaps even a list of things they already have in their kitchen and/or bath, and purchase the corresponding things they still need. Most people think a wedding present needs to be something for the bride and groom’s new home, but not essentially. A great present can be a picture frame for a wedding photo or tickets to an event. Regard as the bride and groom’s hobbies or perhaps a custom-made, engraved present.

Be imaginative in your present choice—this automatically makes your present different and special. If your present is appropriate or nice and one you think the bride and groom will take pleasure in, then purchase it. Keep in mind, the present is for them, not those attending the wedding. If you don’t have much money to use, being resourceful can help. Purchase a few little presents and place them in a basket; this willshow you put lots of thought into the present. When buying any present for a bride and groom, be sure and include a present receipt. This is important, just in case they previously have the present or get duplicates.

If you’re still out of ideas for a present, cash is appropriate. It can actually help newlyweds as they begin their life together and on their honeymoon. If you choose to give cash, purchase a nice card and get a new bill to enclose in the card. This will confirm you made a special effort and the bride and groom won’t have to go to a bank to cash a personal check.

If you be given a wedding invitation, it is customary to send a present even if you opt not to attend. The nature of the wedding can serve as a guideline to decide the amount of money you must spend on a present. The invitation will serve as a hint to the type of wedding it is. Where is it being held and what tim? Is it a formal event or more casual? Think about the ages of the people getting married. Is this their first marriage or have they been married before? A first marriage couple is more likely to need basic household items, while formerly married bride and grooms may have the fundamentals.
