Create Your Thoughts: Change The Way You See Yourself And Your Life
I have started talking to myself in the third person. I think you should too. Stay with me now, it’s for a good reason. And before anyone starts jumping to conclusions, I do not refer to myself in the third person out loud; I want to keep my friends.
She Wrote This Amazing Article
Why would I purposefully begin talking about myself in the third person? It’s oddly empowering. It gives me enough distance to choose how I would like to handle or think about a situation. Instead of worrying, I can take a step back, and like a narrator in a movie, see myself as a character I have some control over.
Be the Director of Your Life
The truth is, we are the characters in our own movies, following scripts and plot lines we’ve developed over the years. Yet unlike The Truman Show, our life is not a ruse, we are both director and lead actor. The man behind the curtain is you.
Talking to myself in the third person reminds me of that truth. It helps me to understand that I can choose how to handle each scene in my life. I can actually direct myself to the desired outcome. Using this technique assists me in actually seeing all the possible outcomes, and acting upon the one that is most desirable.
How to Take Control of Your Thoughts
So instead of thinking on automatic pilot, where your thoughts zip by so quickly you rarely hear them, you actually take the time to create your thoughts. It gives the necessary space, to actually consider what you want to happen and narrate it as such. Thus, you actually can then act in the way you would most want to act, instead of just acting out of habituated patterns.
I have to admit, it feels silly at first, but it quickly becomes pretty fun. Then quite addictive. You’ll find life becomes a bit less serious, and a little more like a movie that you actually want to see.

I like this idea! Lately it seems that everything needs to be taken seriously – and I don't like it one bit haha!
Thank you!

Haha! I've been doing this for years, and have never told a soul because I thought it was silly. But, I can tell you it does work wonders and makes your boring day at the office a lot more interesting!

You know what this reminds me of? The Alanis Morissette song “Sorry to Myself”. The message of the song is that we treat ourselves far worse than we treat other people. We'll beat ourselves up for things we'd easily forgive in others. Looking in the mirror and treating yourself like a separate person can help you treat yourself with the respect and compassion you deserve.
Maybe talking about yourself in the third person brings up the same reaction?

I definitely thought of my life like a script before, but I had never thought about talking about myself in the third person. I…She will definitely try writing in the third person.

It was great to read this post and I too really like the idea of sometimes stepping outside of yourself to discover all the assets that are inside of you. I was particularly struck with the headline of the blog, “Change The Way You See Yourself” since it is the title of our new book. Not a coincidence. Look forward to receiving your updates and perhaps you might want to visit our website….I think you will find that we are indeed like-minded positive conspirators. http://assetbasedthinking.com/
Keep the good thoughts coming.

I like this idea so much. It's innovative.
We always suffer difficulties to make decision. At that time,we hope we can get opinions from all of our friends. Then always we are successful to get them. But then we are still in worry about which option to take.
So at that time, listen to yourself.Maybe it's the best way to release yourself
