Liberating and harnessing the art of self-expression.

Conducting the conductor…

Creativity | May 30th, 2008 by Carrie McCarthy

When I go into a bookstore, I know exactly where to go. I fully enjoy myself. But when I go into a music store, I feel overwhelmed. I love music, but I don’t know where to start.

So I was delighted to discover this new website which offers me the clarity and direction I need: AUDIOMAP.com

Here’s how it works: I wrote in the name of an artist I like, such as, Michael Buble and with perfect accuracy, the site pointed me toward Norah Jones, Frank Sinatra, John Mayer, Harry Connick, Jr and Diana Krall - all of whom I adore!

What a relief to have the security of an online teacher - who is really saying, “If you like this, you would like that,”. The possibilities for online learning amaze me; more and more, the internet allows me to grow. I am saving time and money and effort by knowing what I like. When you know what you like, you can have greater depth.

I can go into a store and choose a couch in under five minutes because I KNOW my own personal aesthetics. But while I may love music, I’m not a musical person and I don’t KNOW it.

I’ve a feeling this may change…
