We ask. You answer. Every question gets you thinking about what’s true for you.

Who or what is your favorite Icon?

Daily | November 21st, 2008 by Danielle LaPorte | Comments | Leave a comment

“When I was a ten-year-old book worm and used to kiss the dust jacket pictures of authors as if they were icons, it used to amaze me that these remote people could provoke me to love.” Erica Jong

Carrie says: The peace sign and the Nike swoosh. Imagine if we all had internal peace and then went out to Just Do It!

Danielle says: Jesus Christ was one cool dude. Cleopatra (mostly for her style; the Asp-suicide doesn’t win over my respect). Sojourner Truth. Blondie. Oprah — all very intense, culture-rocking, iconic women to whom I’d happily genuflect.

On your birthday, how do you like to be cherished?

Daily | November 20th, 2008 by Danielle LaPorte | Comments | Leave a comment

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” Dr. Seuss

Carrie says: A tropical holiday with my husband: rest, read and romp.

Danielle says: I’m turning 40 this coming May 25 (go ahead, feel free to mark your calendars, I loove brithdays). I plan to be in Paris, buzzed on vodka and high on the art. Vive la 40!

What’s your favorite kitchen gadget?

Daily | November 19th, 2008 by Carrie McCarthy | Comments | Leave a comment

Culinary gadgets and gizmos that make life just that much easier.

Carrie says: A hand-held cheese grater we use for cheese, lemon, nuts. I love discovering a product that has a surprise use: fabulous for spooning out poached eggs!

Danielle says: I bought THE most ridiculous stocking stuffer for my hubby last Christmas and every time we use it, we laugh about how much we love it. It’s a plastic kind of “pocket” shaped like a lemon, with small holes in the bottom. (Sorry, I can’t find a name on it.) Insert cut lemon and squeeeeeze. Out comes the juice, and in stay the seeds. Genius. I also really like the OXO vegetable peeler. The fat handle makes all the difference.

What four words describe you?

Daily | November 18th, 2008 by Danielle LaPorte | Comments | Leave a comment

A Style Statement sums you up in two words, but today, we’re rolling the dice and doubling down…

Carrie says: Complicated (ask my husband), kind, curious, genuine.

Danielle says: Emphatic. Generous. Creative. Here.

If you were an animal, what would you be?

Daily | November 17th, 2008 by Carrie McCarthy | Comments | Leave a comment

Technical glitches meant that our Daily Q&A and other posts were delayed / unpublished this morning. Normal service will now resume — our apologies for those of you missing today’s Daily fix!

“A cat is a puzzle for which there is no solution.” - Hazel Nicholson

Carrie says: I have always seen myself as a horse: fast, aware, graceful, strong and needing a lot of rest to replenish and be.

Danielle says: I’m down with the Native Indian belief that we have totem animals who walk with us - the spirit of certain animals that guide and inform us. I’ve had sit-up-straight-awake dreams where an animal gave me a message. And upon further research that creature was telling me exactly what I needed to know for that leg of my journey. Knowing your totem doesn’t have to be as mystical as dream messages; it can be as simple as paying attention to the figurines you’ve always collected or the creatures that keep crossing your path and catching your attention. I’m an Eagle. And Panther has given me plenty of animal medicine this year.
