Budget Planner, Making a Simple Monthly Budget

Working with a budget planner is one of the best ways for you to be able to know where your money is going and help you take control of your finances. You can do this through just an easy budget and even though it might seem like it’s a daunting task at first it can be done fairly painlessly.

Track for a Month

Track your expenses for the next month. If you haven’t had a budget before it’s more than likely that you don’t know where your money is going and what you’re really spending on things. You should write down everything, even that small cup of coffee.

Make a List of Your Income

List out all of your revenue streams and how much you’re making and record this down. If you have more than one form of income you’ll want to put all of these on a separate line. If you only have one source of income it will be very simple.

Make a List of Expenses

Make a list of all your expenses and you’ll have things like your rent and utilities, etc… but you want to make sure that you’re not forgetting things like eating and shopping. Record everything that you’re spending.

Do the Math

Take your total expenses from your total income and if the number comes up positive you’re doing a good job staying within your means. If you’re not then you need to take a step back and figure out where you can eliminate some things so you don’t go into debt.

Continue Tracking

Now that you’re on your way with a budget you’ll want to make sure that you continue to track and don’t get lazy about it so you don’t fall back into the same trap. If you feel like you’re falling back into the same cycle make sure you take corrective action.
