Budget Planner, How to Make a Household Budget for Your Family
A budget planner when you have a family is hard. When you have so much to take care of it’s hard to keep control but when you have a family keeping control is the most important thing.
Through creating your family budget it will help you to avoid some of the struggles and it will give you the opportunity to make your way through any problems as painlessly as possible. Through your budget you’re going to be able to do a few key things:
- Make an assessment of your expenses
- Total out the monthly income
- Figure out any changes that need to be done with your families spending habits
Figuring everything out is going to take time and organization but it is well worth it with the peace of mind that you’re going to get from taking control. The following is going to help you with the knowledge you need to get that control.
Figure the Income
To do any kind of a budget you need to know what your income is. You’ll need to total out exactly how much money is coming into the house each and every month. This will be both spouse’s income and any other income that’s coming in from interest payments or anything else.
Gather the last four stubs if you get paid weekly and if bi-weekly the last two so you can have a full month total. Also gather any of the other income documentation that you have.
Gather the Bills
Gather up all of your bills. You know how much money is coming in and now you need to know how much money you have going out. You’ll want to get any bill as well as receipts etc…
Asses the Extras
Take a look at the extras that you’re spending for entertainment, activities, clubs, gym memberships, etc… Come up with the total amount of money that you’re spending doing other things like eating out, buying clothes and anything else. Don’t forget the morning Starbucks or drinks after work. Everything needs to be counted in to your totals.
Get Your Totals
Add everything up; it’s time for the grand totals. Add up your income and put that in one column. Now add up all the expenses and do the same. Doing some simple math take all of your expenses from your income to come up with the rest of the income that you have. If you’re getting a negative number that means that you’re overspending and living beyond your means. If you get a positive figure then you’re doing well and you can start saving some money and putting it into an emergency fund.
Figure Your Budget
No matter if you’re overspending or if you’re on track you’ll need to figure out a budget. If you’re overspending you’ll need to figure out more ways to conserve money and cut back on the things that you don’t need. Start with your optional spending and go from there. Decide what can and can’t be modified, put an amount to everything including the amount that you’re going to be putting away from savings and you have your budget.
Put Your Budget in Action
Finally put your budget to work and track it for a month and make sure that you’re staying on target. If you’re on track and doing well you’re just going to need to make sure you keep with it and you’ll be financially secure and healthy and on budget.
