Budget Planner, How to Create A Personal Budget Plan
Creating your budget planner can be a challenge if you’re not used to what it takes to create a budget for yourself and using it effectively. You might think that you have an idea where your money is going every month but you’ve never took the time to focus in on the specifics. If you’re like a lot of people you might have never really thought about it at all and you’re simply just winging it.
Regardless of where you fall in there are some steps that you can take to create your budget plan and make it easier for you to track and manage the finances learning to become more organized with your income.
Itemize Expenses
When getting into creation of your budget plan you need to first itemize all of your expenses. This is going to include your rent/mortgage, insurance, utilities, car payments, etc… any outgoing expense that you have. You want to makes sure that you list out everything. Make sure that you’re not leaving anything out; otherwise you’re not going to be getting a clear indication of where you’re at with your monthly exposure.
Create Your Budget Plan
Your next step is going to be to create your budget plan. The easiest way to do this is to use a spreadsheet program like Excel. If you don’t have this software you can actually get a version for free from the following website, http://www.openoffice.org
You’re going to now list all of your expenses in column A with all of your payment amounts inputted into column B. after you’re done listing everything you’re going to just add up all your amounts to find your total monthly expense amount.
After this you’re going to take the total of all your expenses and then divide it by the number of times you get paid every month. This is going to give you your weekly, bi-weekly or monthly budget for each of the items you listed out. For example, if you are giving yourself $300 per month for food and get paid 4 times per month you’ll need to make sure you stick to your $75 weekly food budget.
You’ll follow this for all your expenses and you’ll need to make sure that you stick to it if you’re going to make your budget work. Take this a step further if you wish to and list out all your amounts for each of the weeks into a separate column.
Differing Options
Dependent on your financial situation there are a lot of things that you can do at this point. If you have leftover money you need to make the consideration into making an emergency fund. If you don’t have money leftover you need to look at some places where you can cut so you can start to put a little money away.
If you have quite a bit of debt you should use the extra to start paying off that debt. One good way to go about it is to start paying off your bills from smallest to largest. You’ll be making progress by getting more bills eliminated and then after you’re done with those small bills you can start to eliminate the large bills and get yourself out of debt.
