Book Review: Gorgeous
“Elegance isn’t a superficial thing. It’s the way mankind has found to honor life and work.”
This is a line from Paulo Coelho’s book The Witch of Portobello. Coelho’s writing isn’t stunning in a Toni Morrison kind of way (and what writing is, really?), but it’s a very interesting novel in its study of people’s perceptions—of themselves and others—and how they manage them, fight them, are moved by them. And it was full of messages like that quote above (which seems to have been written for me, but which I thought you all would certainly be able to vibe with.)
Style Statement. First, it’s just physically gorgeous, as is, apparently, everything you all do. And it is a pleasure to experience in that it is both useful and indulgent. Miraculous, that.
Be well,
Tamara
