BlackBerry Cell Phones: The Best Mobile Devices for Business

Personal Media, Technology | November 12th, 2009 No comments

We all know that a BlackBerry means business – but as these quintessential productivity smartphones gain popularity, the market has been flooded with a variety of different BlackBerry models and BlackBerry cell phone plans and cell phone accessories and cell phone apps.  Jumping on the multimedia smartphone bandwagon, RIM now offers a couple BlackBerry phones that are more skewed towards stylishness and entertainment features. If you’re a workaholic addicted to your CrackBerry, then it’s worth your time to look into which BlackBerry model will help you keep your finger on the pulse of business. In our opinion, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 from T-Mobile does the best job of straddling the line between flashy form factor and good old fashioned productivity. Here’s why:
Slim but not spare
If you want every possible feature that can be crammed into a handset and don’t mind the extra weight and bulk, then by all means go for the BlackBerry Bold.  But if you want something that slides unobtrusively into your pocket but still want a full QWERTY keyboard, then the BlackBerry 8900 is a must. The trackball makes it easy to zip around menus and the mute button on top let’s you silence the ringer ASAP when it goes off during a meeting.
E-mail galore
E-mail is now the language of business – and BlackBerry Curve 8900 is fluent in POP, IMAP, BlackBerry Enterprise Server, IBM Lotus Domino, Novell GroupWise and webmail, such as Hotmail, AOL and Gmail. You can have up to 10 e-mail accounts, each supporting HTML e-mails so you can see messages how they were meant to be seen. You can even run AOL Instant Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger or Windows Live messenger in the background, making staying in the loop easier than ever.
Documents To Go
Most phones fall short when it comes to viewing PDFs and Word documents on the go. How many times have you had to send someone an e-mail saying you’d take a look once you got back to the office? DataViz’s Documents To Go solves this issue by allowing you to view and edit DOC, XLS, and PPT files. The premium version even lets you run spell check, word count, change fonts and create new documents.

Never lost
BlackBerry Maps is GPS-enabled to help you pinpoint where you are and where you’re going at all times. It’s perfect for when you’re in an unfamiliar city, trying to make your way to the convention center.
Free calls, Free Wi-Fi
The BlackBerry Curve is available with cell phone plans from the other top providers, but T-Mobile wins out with the best BlackBerry Curve plan. The BlackBerry Curve 8900 already stands head and shoulders above earlier BlackBerry Curve models thanks to its Wi-Fi Capability, but T-Mobile really helps you get the most out of your Wi-Fi by allowing you unlimited HotSpot calling from any T-Mobile HotSpot.
Other Contenders
The BlackBerry 8900 from T-Mobile is, in our opinion, the best BlackBerry Curve for business. Still, there are a few BlackBerry models that may be more enticing to you, depending on your needs. Check out the following:
•    BlackBerry Pearl – Smallest BlackBerry available. BlackBerry connectivity but with a SureType keyboard instead of a QWERTY Keyboard.
•    BlackBerry Storm – Revolutionary clickable touchscreen – a radical departure from other BlackBerry phones, but just as much productive might.
•    BlackBerry Tour – GSM-enabled, making it easy to use internationally. Good for traveling executives.
