The Power of Color: What It Means and How It Can Help

Color surrounds us and adds spice to what could be considered boring surroundings. Our world is painted with a large spectrum of colors, but each has its own meaning. Greens are primarily a healing color, blues represent tranquility, orange equates to success, and red means power. But these are just a few of a myriad of color combinations that can create meaning, symbolism, and power. So let’s first talk about power colors.
What Are Power Colors?
Power colors are just that–colors that bring a feeling of empowerment. Often, when someone is hoping to be seen in a position of power at work, that person will wear red. This color represents authority. Red also signals a need for attention. If you occupy a position of power but aren’t feeling extremely powerful, red can act like an armor. Those who feel a kinship to the color red are the “doers” of the power color group.
Orange promotes success. It’s the color of the Sun, which is the center of our solar system. All other planets must revolve around this life-giving object. When you see someone wearing orange, they want you to see them as someone unafraid to hide. They know what they want and who they are, and they won’t apologize for it. But oranges, much like every other color, have softer shades that reflect a more giving nature and subdued personality. Those drawn to the color orange are the intellectuals of the power color group.
Purple is the color of royalty and mystery. It’s a perfect combination of the colors red and blue, red as a power color and blue as a spiritual color. Purple represents the crown chakra, which is above the head. It represents our connection to universal energy. Those who wear purple show that they are authoritative but wise. Spiritually, they have a very strong connection, and mentally, they are beyond their years. People drawn to the color purple tend to be more emotionally oriented than those drawn to the other power colors.
