Personal Injury Law, Finding the Right Asbestosis Lawyer
Choosing an asbestosis lawyer starts off with looking for a personal injury lawyer that not only has the personal injury experience but also lawsuits specifically in asbestos correlated suits.
Asbestosis is a very serious disease that is caused by the exposure to asbestos causing lifelong problems and even death. It’s important that you have the right person on your side. Make sure that you find not only a lawyer with the aforementioned experience but also one that has a very strong history of plaintiff representation with wins.
The lawyer that you choose needs to be extremely knowledgeable in terms of the dangers of asbestos and be able to accurately convey the seriousness to the jury.
Find a Lawyer
One good resource for finding a lawyer is go look to the ABA (American Bar Association) as they are able to give you a list of both licensed and qualified lawyers that are in your immediate area or close. Once you have your list then you can start to trim it down further like talked about above.
You’re going to want to find someone that has a good track record and experience in asbestos and personal injury law. They could be someone with experience in:
- Asbestosis
- Mesothelioma
- Other asbestos linked lung cancer
Make sure they can show you results of past cases. The one thing to keep in mind here though is that you’re looking for a history and shouldn’t think that that amount they won on the case(s) they’ve shown you is going to be what you’re going to get. Each case is different and you can’t judge one off another; however, you can use their results record to make a decision on a good lawyer to choose.
Check Their History
You’ll want to check out the history of the lawyer that you’re looking to hire. You’re going to want to make sure that they don’t have any prior malpractice lawsuits. Be up front and ask them if they do or have had any pending or resolved. This is not too personal of a question. They should be willing to be upfront with you about any prior history they’ve had good or bad. You can also look on your own as you can usually find the information by doing a public records search or finding information at the local professional law society.
Interview and Hire Your Choice
You’ll want to conduct an interview of the lawyer just like they are of you. You’ll want to know what types of fees are going to be assessed. Most all attorneys take this type of personal injury litigation on a contingency. This means that you’re not going to have to pay any money up front and sacrifice nothing other than your time. The lawyer will only get paid if you get paid and when that happens they take a predetermined percentage off the top.
The important thing that you need to remember is that you can only bring a lawsuit once. This is the reason why it is so stressed that you pick someone that has experience and will win the case in court or be able to induce a reasonable settlement.
