Aphrodisiacs and Erectile Dysfunction

Sexuality | November 27th, 2009

The most embarrassing of situations for any man to experience, is when he fails in bed. Every man has an inherent need and desire to satisfy his partner in bed, and give as much pleasure to his partner as possible. When he is unable to do that, it is time for him to step back and take stock of the situation. A loss of sexual desire and not feeling the wild desire to have sex could just be a loss of libido. Many different kinds of Aphrodisiacs claim to offer a solution for this problem.

Aphrodisiacs claim to increase libido. This is a much debated and discussed topic. There is one school of thought that says certain Aphrodisiacs really work very well and then there is another school of thought which claims Aphrodisiacs are rubbish and do not or cannot work.

The fact is that a loss of libido may be cured by Aphrodisiacs which claim to increase libido, but a far more serious threat exists; that of Erectile Dysfunction. Erectile Dysfunction can be defined in three ways:

  • When getting an erection is impossible despite all visual stimulations
  • When an erection does not last for any length of time
  • When an erection is not hard enough to facilitate satisfactory vaginal penetration

There are many causes for Erectile Dysfunction and for a loss of libido.

Physical causes could include an injury suffered to certain parts of the body which affect a man’s sex organs or his ability to perform sexual intercourse, certain medications taken by the man which interfere in sexual functions, medical conditions which decrease sexual functioning and certain diseases like cancer and diabetes.

Psychological and emotional cause for impotence could be a very low self esteem in the man, some incident in the man’s past which has scarred him, abuse suffered as a child at the hands of a close relative or acquaintance, a general nervousness in bed and not having the confidence to do everything right and satisfactorily, guilty feeling about something that happened in the past, depression caused by a variety of reasons like problems in the relationship or problems at work, the stress caused at the workplace and the pressures of every day professional life and other such factors.

The important thing for the man here, is to recognize that he has a problem and to seek out professional help as soon as he sees the first signs. It is also important to understand the difference between a low libido and impotence. A low libido could be a temporary thing which lasts during a certain phase in the man’s life when he is dealing with some stressful and difficult incidents in his life. Impotence or Erectile Dysfunction is a medical condition that needs expert advice and professional help. If this help is not sought in time then it might get too late for the man to get any kind of help.
