As obesity among kids is increasing at an alarming rate, more and more parents are getting concerned with kids fitness. Until a few decades ago, kids got enough exercise simply by playing around. Then with the advent of television, especially television aimed at children viewership, made couch potatoes out of them and we began to see in the average weight of children around the country. Couple that with a barrage of advertising on the television coaxing kids to have junk food and the results have been far from healthy. Finally, with Internet making a foray into children’s world, kids are more than ever glued to their chair and not getting any exercise. It has become more urgent that ever to ensure the body fitness of children while they are still in their growing stages, to ensure a healthy body for the rest of their lives.

There are many benefits to enrolling your children in fitness programs designed especially for them. But, even without fitness programs, you can ensure that your kids get some exercise. Just read on to find out how easy it can be to work on the body fitness of children. Also listed are some of the benefits your children will derive from it.

Doing aerobic exercises help the whole body to be fit. To begin with, it makes the heart muscle stronger and more efficient.  Aerobic actually means ‘with air’ which means that doing aerobic exercises ensures a fresh supply of air, more specifically oxygen, into your blood stream, hence affecting every part of your body positively. There are many aerobic activities kids can undertake, from playing hopstoch, skipping rope and skipping to walking, jogging, skating, biking and playing games like soccer, basketball, etc.

When children are growing, their muscles are still in development stages. If they do the right exercises, they will have strong muscles. They will also help you kids grow stronger and will increase their stamina. So, what kind of exercises can be done to build strong muscles? Pushups, Pull ups, squats, swinging across monkey bars, tug of war, biking, in-line skating and rowing among other activities will help build strong muscles.

Kids are typically flexible. If they keep doing the right exercises, they can keep their bodies flexible through their adult life and can eliminate a number of health issues later like spine problems, back aches, etc. Exercises that help you flex your body and your muscles invariably feel good as they help release the tension that may be locked up in muscles. Exercises that increase flexibility include Yoga, gymnastics, dancing and practicing martial arts among others.

One of the biggest benefit of getting children to do exercises is that exercising releases endorphins and they make you feel good. This helps children build self esteem and self confidence. Also, with a fit body and a healthy mind, they are sure to do well in school, which will keep adding to their self confidence.
