i'm so glad that you or the woman in the story enjoyed the camping afterall. i actually quite like a good roll in the rain fields. the smells invigorate my senses.

Beautifully written, Lucia! I laughed, I cried, I made my co-workers read over my shoulder and then forwarded it so they could read it again; as I have done, over and over. Even though it has been almost four decades, I still dream of my lost child…thanks for the tears of love.

Oh my goodness…it's the truth, i went camping with my husband 16 years ago and haven't done it since!! You're a better woman than i'll ever be and so brilliantly and eloquently said….you have a way of making us laugh and cry at the same time….
i thought i would lose it when i came to the line about you being able to “smell your own bum”….honestly – you paint a picture like no-one else…..
thankyou for the memories…I think!!??

I need a kleenex. Thank you Lucia for this great story. Funny, beautiful, raw. I have an almost 2 year old little girl and I too lost a baby that would have been born this month… and then another 6 months later. Here's hoping “Third time lucky” as it was with marriage proposals.

How truly this reflects those of us who enjoy the creature comforts of home! Adventures such as this are for the hearty, and few are they. So much more preferable than those who literally haul their creature comforts in a 5th wheel of gargantuan size behind the 4×4 gas guzzling truck with all the motorized toys ready to wreak havoc on the serenity and beauty of nature…..Isn't that why we go camping in the first place? To enjoy nature, not trample it under foot?! That is why we camp…..so we appreciate what we have waiting for us back in civilization. I truly enjoyed the read! Thank you for the laugh and walk down memory lane!
